Shawana recently reached out to us on the RPC, sharing that she had persevered through an extremely difficult time. Released in 2019, Shawana immediately found 2 jobs, but was homeless. She moved in with family and paid rent.
“Everything was seemingly perfect… That was the beginning of the most challenging time of my life. For almost 3 years, while trying to assist others, build myself up, and make adjustments, my help turned into captivity and I didn’t realize it”.
Shawana sought counseling and realized she was okay. Her living situation was not. Determined, Shawana channeled what she learned in our Resilience Education business classes through Darden - she saw the bigger picture, made a plan and moved out.
“Resilience Education provided me with opportunities, opened doors, and created jobs. But most importantly, it taught me a resilience mindset, not the survival mindset that I was used to. Despite everything, I am still networking, building my business, and assisting others within my community, all while taking care of a 10-month-old”.
Shawana has recently started a new full-time job with benefits at a leading hospitality company, which gives her stable income. Shawana used that Resilience mindset to negotiate her salary and include in her contract the opportunity to be considered for a promotion in six months!
We write to you today in holiday spirit to celebrate Shawana’s strength and the success she has recently found. We have less than $10k more to go to achieve our year-end goal of $25k. Help us continue to help individuals like Shawana to create stories of Resilience by donating to the Momentum Fund 2.0 today!
Resilience wishes you a great and safe new year.
