Leveraging the power of AI technology to create workforce solutions
Collateral consequences of criminal convictions—civil penalties like restrictions on employment, housing, and benefits—create significant barriers for people with records and employers seeking to hire them. In 2021, we partnered with UVA School of Data Science and UPenn Diversatech to transform the National Inventory of Collateral Consequences of Conviction (NICCC) into an interactive visualization to identify opportunities for individuals and employers.
In 2024, we collaborated with UVA Data Science and the American Institute of Research (AIR) to integrate cutting-edge technology. Our AI chatbot helps identify alternative career pathways for those impacted by these laws and allows employers to better understand which restrictions apply to jobs. With 75% of our engineering team being formerly incarcerated, our tool is informed by real-world needs, driving change in fair chance hiring.
